The 6 Days Mount Kilimanjaro Trek via the Rongai Route is the only route that approaches Mount Kilimanjaro from the northern side, near the Kenya–Tanzania border. Known for its quieter trails and drier conditions, Rongai is an excellent choice during the rainy season and for trekkers seeking a less crowded experience.
This route offers a steady, gradual ascent through pine forest, moorland, and alpine desert, before joining the Marangu route near Kibo. While the 6-day itinerary is more challenging than longer options, it remains achievable for fit trekkers with proper preparation and altitude awareness.
Camping is required on this route, with the final descent via the Marangu Route, providing a varied and rewarding Kilimanjaro experience.
The trek begins at Nalemoru Gate near the Kenyan border. You hike through cultivated farmland and pine forest before reaching Simba Camp, with wide views of the Kenyan plains.
