This 3-day Mount Meru trek is a short but adventurous climb in Arusha National Park, offering stunning scenery, diverse wildlife, and breathtaking views of Mount Kilimanjaro.
Mount Meru (4,566m) is Tanzania’s second-highest peak and provides an excellent trekking experience for those with limited time or as preparation for Kilimanjaro. The route includes forest walks, wildlife encounters, and a rewarding summit view at Socialist Peak.
Depart from Arusha and drive to Momella Gate in Arusha National Park
Complete park formalities and meet your trekking crew and armed ranger
Begin the trek through forest trails with chances to see giraffes, buffalo, monkeys, and birds
Stop for lunch along the way
Continue hiking to Miriakamba Hut (approx. 2,500m)
Meals: Lunch, Dinner
Accommodation: Miriakamba Hut
After breakfast, continue trekking through the forest into moorland vegetation
Enjoy scenic views along the way
Arrive at Saddle Hut (approx. 3,570m)
After lunch, optional short hike to Little Meru for acclimatization and sunset views
Early dinner and rest in preparation for summit attempt
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Accommodation: Saddle Hut
Start summit attempt around midnight
Trek to Socialist Peak (4,566m) in time for sunrise
Enjoy spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro and the surrounding plains
Descend back to Saddle Hut for breakfast
Continue descent to Momella Gate
Transfer back to Arusha
